Atmospheric sciences student receives prestigious scholarship

Stephanie Mullins, a University of Louisiana at Monroe atmospheric sciences sophomore, recently received a distinguished two-year Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

鈥淚t is indeed an impressive achievement for her, as fewer than 100 such scholarships are awarded each year within the U.S.,鈥� said Dr. Michael Camille, associate professor of geography and department head of geosciences.

The scholarship provides for $8,000 of academic assistance each year during the junior and senior years and a 10-week paid summer internship at NOAA. The Hollings scholarship program is designed to increase undergraduate training in atmospheric science; prepare students for public service careers with the NOAA and other natural resource and science governmental agencies; and prepare students for careers as teachers in oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and environmental education in the United States.
